Job Description Summary
Under general supervision, performs commercial, residential, recycling and roll-off routes within the City.
Job Responsibilities
Operates motorized vehicles and powered equipment.
Collects commercial and residential curbside or dumpster refuse; follows daily routes and schedules.
Collects curbside residential and commercial dumpster recycling.
Performs curbside solid waste collection and recycling pickup.
Hauls dirt and other materials.
Performs light vehicle maintenance.
Performs maintenance checks on trucks; checks fluids, etc.
Cleans and maintains shop equipment.
May perform welding and fabrication activities.
Serves on an on-call rotation.
Works safely; attends safety training sessions; follows safe work practices; identifies and reports unsafe working conditions; promotes safe work practices and all areas of work safety.
Supports the relationship between the City of Plainview and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent; AND one year of experience in solid waste and recycling operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
Possession of a Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed primarily in an outdoor work environment.
May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, infectious diseases and hazardous chemicals.
May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Knowledge and Skills (preferred)
Knowledge:
City policies and procedures.
Local, state and federal rules and regulations regarding solid waste operations.
Practices and techniques of solid waste collection.
City geography.
Landfill operations.
Basic recordkeeping principles and practices.

Basic equipment maintenance and repair procedures.

Maintaining accurate activity records.

Operating various motorized equipment and vehicles.
